Welcome to Exeter Children's Orchestra
Exeter Children's Orchestra offers children and young people aged 7-18 the chance to play a wide variety of music in a fun, friendly and safe environment. New members are always welcome and there are no scary auditions! Find out about the organisation and being a member.
The Big Bang!
We would like to raise £5000 to replace our ageing timpani drums.
Our current timpani (kettle drums) are really too heavy for the children to lift on and off the vans at events. They are too big to fit through the door of the storeroom we rent and so have to live in the school hall. At weekends we have to leave them outside the school hall doors after each concert for the caretaker to drag in when he unlocks on the Monday morning. They are exposed to the elements and get cold and damp. They have to be stacked to avoid leaking guttering and this is damaging the skins.
With your help we could buy new, modern, smaller, lighter, stackable drums with protective covers that can be safely stored indoors and more easily transported to concerts. To replace all three drums would be ideal - we can then sell the old ones on. To be able to purchase a fourth drum would be amazing since in many pieces our percussionist need to re-tune mid piece to handle key changes.
Can you help us? Can you donate? Can we make a big bang this summer?
Play along with recordings from the internet while you learn your parts. This page is a work in progress!
Why not give ECO a try?
Playing in a group or orchestra is what music is all about. We're always happy to welcome young musicians who would like to find out about playing in an orchestra. If you're interested in playing with Exeter Children's Orchestra, come along on any Saturday in term-time, to St. Leonard's Primary School, Exeter
You don't even have to play your instrument the first time - just come along and see what we do. You can read more here about being a member.
New ECO Feeder Group
Exeter Children's Orchestra Feeder Group
Exeter Children's Orchestra Feeder Group is a new group available to children between the age of 7 - 18 who have recently started to learn a standard orchestral instrument up to about Grade 2 standard. (Children will need to be able to read music).
The group will be directed by ECO's Flute tutor; Laura Morris, who herself started at ECO in 1986 on the recorder!
Not only does it give new starters the opportunity to play as part of a group but teaches you to follow a conductor, listen to others, counting skills; disciplines you may not put into practice in an individual music lesson.
The aim of the feeder group is to give you the confidence to play and perform together and to then move up to ECO in the future.
The group will meet every Saturday during term time, commencing 6 June 2015 at St Leonards Primary School in Exeter. 11am - 12pm. The cost will be £20 per term, however as the group will be half way through a term, it will be £10 until the end of term.
Editor's Note: Next term you will be able to pay for these sessions via paypal from this page.
