SUMMER CONCERT AT ST PETER'S SCHOOL - ECO with Kagemusha Junior Taiko
Saturday, 1st July 2006
The summer of 2006 will be remembered as one of the hottest for a long time and one which saw all of the Exeter high schools demolished and rebuilt to accommodate extra pupils from Year 7. At the end of the summer term ECO was searching frantically for a venue for their big summer concert. Eventually after much debate it was agreed to hold the concert in the 'soon-to-be demolished' St Peter's School hall. Access to the building was tricky. In fact the whole area was literally a building site. Players and audience had to pick their way past fencing and rubble to gain access to the main entrance to the school where they found evidence of packing crates and all the paraphernalia associated with the removal of a school containing over 1,000 children.
It was an unusual venue to say the least but the school hall was still intact and the acoustic was good, so we set up ready to perform with our special guests for the evening: Kagemusha Junior Taiko. This exciting group of young drummers provided an amazing spectacle. Their colourful costumes and spirited performance was vibrant and fun to watch. The audience loved it and responded with enthusiastic clapping. As usual our refreshments during the interval soon disappeared as thirsty and hungry people poured out into the foyer to spend their money. The raffle was a great success, and we ended the evening feeling very happy that everyone had had such a good time in the company of ECO and friends.
