SUMMER CONCERT ON EXETER QUAY
Saturday 24th June 2006
One of our favourite outings in the summer term is the informal concert performed on the Quay in Exeter. This year, as in many years before, we were lucky to have a beautiful day with warm weather, the sunlight making the river sparkle as a backdrop for the orchestra. As usual the Cygnet Theatre kindly furnished us with chairs, and a long crocodile of children and adults processed up and then down the steep steps with the seating. Eventually we were ready to start playing, and our audience began to gather. Audiences on the Quay are always interesting - this year we had passers-by, families, shoppers, rowers on the river, and even a "stag party"!
Coffees, teas and ice creams were bought from the nearby café and the music helped to create a perfect English summer afternoon. Clapping was heard from all over the Quay after each item, and we even noticed people joining in on the opposite bank of the river. Drew's Grandma was serenaded with Happy Birthday much to her surprise and delight, and the concert finished in plenty of time for the more energetic players to enjoy a go on the "swan" pedaloes.
